Some of the talks were pretty interesting, others left me head-scratching. A comprehensive review of keyparts of a great number of things that went down yesterday at the ISMB is available via the ISMB2008 room @ FriendFeed.

One of the really annoying things during most of the talks that I sat in, was that a lot of the presenters had to rush through through a great number of slides due to time constraints. However, I wouldn’t ask about more time for each individual talk. I’d much rather like everyone who is presenting something, to shorten those obligatory “the history of x” slides. I understand what’s so attractive about talking about the history, but not at the cost of a logical and coherent message. If you only have about 20 minutes then you should better spend them wise.

Yesterday, we also presented our poster. Even though it is a collaboration of undergraduates that had in average about 4-6 hours a week, we are a bit proud of the response we got during the poster session. To be honest, the number of people who were interested in a visualization tool for RNA secondary structures was really unexpected.

Not so unexpected was the awesomeness that is The Dark Knight. I saw it in the IMAX here in Toronto yesterday and boy it delivered. It is easy to get caught in all the hype around the movie but unlike, say, Matrix Reloaded, it lived up to the hype. It is truly a masterpiece that is going to be almost impossible to top in the conclusion of the trilogy. However, after living through this amazing 2.5 hours I have complete trust in Christopher Nolan.
